October highlights

The musical collaboration of Modeselektor and Apparat, with their two varying backgrounds in the Berlin electro music scene, came together in 2008 to create Moderat and with it a lauded self-titled debut album. Over the years Modeselektor and Apparat have continued to release albums of their own before coming back together to record Moderat’s third album III, released earlier this year to more rave reviews. See them bring their minimal electro cool to Rockhal on October 2.

If you didn’t manage to see Pink Floyd live, now’s your chance to see the next best thing. Regarded as one of the best tribute bands around The Australian Pink Floyd Show come to Rockhal on October 7. Bringing with them not just the Pink Floyd music but also a visual show to match any touring band at the moment, it’s no surprise they’ve sold over four million concert tickets in 35 countries since their inception in 1988.

For its 30th anniversary in Luxembourg, Médecins Sans Frontières and the Rocklab have organised Music For Good, a special event honouring the best of the Luxembourg music scene with Edsun, Seed To Tree, Sun Glitters and La Releve set to take to the stage. The concert which is to be held at Rockhal on October 8 will donate all profits to MSF to provide medical assistance to people in need.

Known for their outrageous and humorous lyrics, Steel Panther are devoted to the 1980s hair metal days as they parody and stereotype the time of everything that’s bigger is better. They’ll bring their exaggerated on-stage personas to Rockhal on October 11. Expect to see lots of tight leather trousers, plenty of hair with head bands and the obligatory rock pose. For fans of Van Halen and Guns & Roses.

London based indie folk trio Daughter returned with another hauntingly beautiful record earlier this year as they continue to cement their place as one of genre’s most accomplished acts. Having got their big break supporting Ben Howard on his European tour, they’ve gone on to build a large devoted fan base of their own with their “Word-in-the-ear intimate and mountain-range massive” (sound) –The Fly. See them bring that intimate yet epic sound to den Atelier on October 16.

The highly decorated and original English singer-songwriter PJ Harvey will bring her spellbinding and emotive show to Rockhal on October 18. Having been nominated for a Brit Award eight times, six times for a Grammy and four nominations for the Mercury Prize. She is no stranger to critical praise whilst in 2011, she was awarded for Outstanding Contribution to Music by NME and in June 2013, she was awarded an MBE for her services to music.

Ben Harper will be accompanied by The Innocent Criminals for the first time in seven years as he returns to Luxembourg for the first time in six years to play Rockhal on October 21. Harper released a string of eight studio albums over a decade and a half. This extraordinary run, featuring contributions from The Innocent Criminals, established him as a powerful songwriter and performer with range across multiple genres and an unmatched ability to blend the personal and political. Massive, international sold-out tours, Top 10 debuts in the US, Gold and Platinum certifications overseas, and a host of TV appearances cemented Harper and the band’s status as genuine global stars.

The Cinematic Orchestra are a British nu-jazz and electronic group who’ll play Rockhal on October 30. Their sound, in both live and studio contexts, employs a live band which improvises along with a turntable and electronic elements such as samples. In their studio releases they will often remix the live source material to produce a combination of live jazz improvisation with electronica to such effect that it’s difficult to tell where the improvisation ends and the production begins.
